Biography


Jorge García del Valle Méndez was born in Bad-Säckingen, Germany, but grew up in Spain. His musical education began there with Bassoon and Composition.

In 1996 Jorge García del Valle Méndez went to Dresden (Germany) where he also studied Composition with Jörg Herchet and Electronic Music with Wilfried Jentzsch at the "Carl Maria von Weber" Conservatory of Music. He also participated in additional composition courses.
He performs as a Bassoonist in the areas of Solo and Chamber music with an emphasis on contemporary music.
His compositional career has definitely taken an international course. His works are premiered and broadcasted since 1993 not only in Europe (Madrid, Berlin, London, Wrocław, etc.) but also worldwide (Argentina, USA, Japan, Korea, etc.) He frequently receives commissions from various international institutions. Also several prices gave international recognition to his music.

His compositions comprise several areas of music: Solo, Chamber Ensemble, Orchestra and Electronic Music which have been performed worlwide. He frequently receives commissions from various institutions. Some of his more well-known works include: "Augenstrauß" for Bassoon and Orchestra in which he performed the solo part of the Bassoon, "Babel" for 13 Strings performed in Spain and Germany, "An Anna Blume" for 16 Solo voices and Live-Electronic, a commission for the ensemble "Vocal Modern" and recorded on MDR-Radio and "Du, Deiner, Dich, Dir" for 4-Channel-Tape, performed in 2005 in the "next generation" Festival of the ZKM. His Portrait Concert of the Composer with works for chamber ensemble and electronics took place in 2004 in Logroño, Spain.
Through electronic music he became interested in digital analysis and sound processing, which he has applied to his theoretical works as well as his musical compositions. His article over digital analysis in Bassoon multiphonics and their sound possibilities in the application to contemporary music has been published in the woodwind music magazine "Rohrblatt".
In 2005 Jorge García del Valle Méndez held a scholarship of the "Kulturstiftung Sachsen". With this support he composed the work "I dream you dreamed about me" for chamber ensemble. The Orchester Sinfonietta Dresden presented this work in November 2005 for the first time.
His composition "seok yang jong" for violin, violoncello, piano and tape was awarded second prize in the 2006 Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award Competition of the University of Illinois (USA). He also won in 2006 the first prize in the 4th Composition Award of the Sächsischer Musikrat (Germany) with the work "Wutpunkt" for large orchestra, premiered in November 2008 at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig (Germany). This composition was released in 2009 on CD.
He also made in 2006 the soundtracks for three documentaries of the University of Dresden, which were premiered in Germany, Sweden and England.
In 2007 he received a commission of the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden for a multichannel electronic work. This work was premiered in November 2008 at the inauguration of the new concert hall of this Hochschule.

He received in 2009 the second prize of the 5th Composition Award of the Sächsischer Musikrat (Germany) with the work "After Dark" for chamber ensemble.
In 2010 he took part in the ICAD 2010 conference in Washington DC with the work "Road, River and Rail". This work would be performed again in New York at the Tenri Cultural Institute in June 2011.

In October 2011 he was invited by the University of Okayama (Japan), which hosted the premiere of two of his works.


In 2011 and 2012 his works were performed in Dresden (Germany), Vitoria (Spain), New York (USA), Tokyo and Okayama (Japan).

In 2012, he received a scholarship from the "Kulturstiftung Sachsen" for the composition of the Ensemble work "extremely, irrevocably..." . In the same year he was also invited at the Härjedalens Summer Academy in Sweden as a lecturer in composition.

The Electronic Music Midwest Festival EMM selected his work "Visions of the Void" for piano and electronics to be performed in Kansas City at the 2013 edition of the festival.

In 2014 the Ensemble Aventure played the work "석양종" [seok yang jong] for violin, violoncello, piano and 2-channel-tape in the SICMF 2014 in Seoul (South Korea). Also this year, his work "no sun, no moon" for bass flute and electronic received a honorary mention at the Concours International de Composition de Musique Electroacoustique de Monaco.

He also made the soundtracks for some documentaries of the University of Dresden, which were premiered in Germany, Sweden and England.
